Henriëtte Ronner-Knip was a Dutch-Belgian artist of the Romantic style, who is known for her animal paintings, especially cats. In 1835 she began painting in earnest. She participated in the Exhibition of Living Masters in 1838. That same year, she became the first woman to be admitted as an 'active member' to Arti et Amicitiae, a Dutch artists' association founded in 1839, located on the Rokin in Amsterdam. The Society has played a key role in the Dutch art scene and in particular in the Amsterdam Art Academies. Around 1850, she narrowed her subject matter and focused almost entirely on dogs and cats. After 1870 she painted her most famous works, with long-haired, often playful cats in bourgeois settings.
The sculptures are made by Parastone from stone and marble powder which is bound by means of synthetic resin. This form of production ensures that the sculptures have a solid and durable quality. All sculptures are handpainted.
